2011 ICRC Road Projects

Updated 11-04-11

Listed below are the road projects that the Road Commission has scheduled to be completed for the 2011 construction season (please note that the start/completion dates are only tentative estimates regarding the project schedules):

1.            Waverly Road – Moores River Drive to Lansing Road.  Drainage improvements and concrete pavement repair.  Lansing Charter Township.  Federal Urban STP funding.  Estimated Cost: $490,000.  The west leg of Old Lansing Road will open on May 9th.  Waverly Road is anticipated to be open to traffic during the third week of May.  Thereafter, the remainder of the project will only involve signal and drainage work which will require single lane closures at times.

2.            Waverly Road  – Bridge deck over I-96 to Jolly Road.  Construction will be asphalt repaving over asphalt stabilized base, including portions with curb and gutter, ADA ramp upgrades, and drainage improvements.  New road surface will be widened from 2 to 3 lanes with paved shoulders.  Delhi Charter Township.  Federal Urban STP funding.  Estimated cost: $1,000,000.  Road reconstruction is anticipated to begin on the morning of August 22nd.  Waverly Road will be closed to through traffic.  There will be a posted detour along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (M-99) and Jolly Road.  On Bishop Road there will also be a posted detour for northbound traffic.  Waverly Road is anticipated to re-open to traffic by the week of November 7th.  There will then be intermittent lane closures for the next couple of weeks to finish up restoration and ancillary work items.  The project should be completed by the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Additionally, Michigan State University will be monitoring the project for the purpose of the crumb rubber research grant over the next few years.

3.            Willoughby Road Bridge – Over Sycamore Creek.  Bridge replacement.  Alaiedon Township.  Federal and State Local Bridge Program funding.  Estimated Cost: $850,000.  This project is nearly complete, and is now open to traffic.

4.            Cedar Street  – Hancock Street to Keller Road.  Construction will be cold milling and repaving asphalt surface, along with storm sewer repairs, ADA ramp, and pedestrian crossing signal upgrades.  Delhi Charter Township.  Federal Urban STP funding.  Estimated cost: $650,000.    Beginning the evening of Wednesday, August 17th, Cedar Street will be closed to southbound traffic from Keller Road to Holt Road.  The posted detour is Aurelius Road to Holt Road, and then back to Cedar Street.  Northbound traffic will be maintained through the work zone.  Cold milling will begin the morning of August 18th, with leveling course paving scheduled for August 22-23.  Due to remaining prep work that needs to be completed during the remainder of that week, it is most unlikely that top course will be paved prior to the Holt Hometown festivities and parade.  We will adjust traffic control to the greatest extent possible to accommodate the parade.  Currently, we anticipate top course paving to take place on August 29-30, and open to full traffic by the end of that week.  Some lane closures may continue into Mid/Late-September for off-road work such as signals and restoration.

5.            Okemos Road Enhancement – Jolly Road to Clinton Street.  Street lighting, decorative sidewalk, plantings and furniture.  Meridian Charter Township.  Federal Enhancement Grant and Meridian Township funding.  Estimated Cost: $472,000.
